The prevention of occupational risks is the primary principle of occupational safety and health, laid down in Law 186/2008. Essential to implementing a responsible approach to occupational safety and health is the employer's awareness and assurance of the principles of avoiding occupational risks; assessing occupational risks that cannot be avoided and combating occupational risks at source. Occupational risk (risk of injury or occupational disease) is legally defined as the combination of the probability and severity of a possible injury or damage to health in a hazardous situation. Occupational risk assessment - activity to determine the extent to which the work system deviates from the ideal state in which any possibility of occupational injury or illness is excluded. Occupational risk assessment is preceded by the fulfilment of the minimum legal occupational safety and health requirements in force and must cover each activity and each workstation in an establishment, taking into account each worker, work task, work equipment and working environment. The assessment of occupational risks must be carried out in a systematic way on the basis of a defined and logical methodology.
