The purpose of the Optional Protocol on the rights of the child regarding the communication procedure is to encourage children to know their rights, as well as to allow children from states that have ratified/adhered to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to submit complaints directly to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child if they have not found a solution at the national level regarding their violated rights, thus establishing a specific procedure in this regard. The ratification of the Protocol in question will strengthen the child rights protection system in the Republic of Moldova, and will reinforce the capacities of the specialists involved in the field of child rights protection based on the necessary national mechanisms to ensure respect for children's rights. In this article, the author analyzes the Optional Protocol to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child regarding the communication procedure, elucidating the peculiarities, advantages and gaps of this international treaty, and formulating a series of recommendations in order to remedy the existing gaps.
