dc.description.abstract The article discussed previously unexplored aspect of the art text of the called work. Traditional view on the play considered as only a history "of rural life” is disproved. The image of Ukraine as a legal state is revealed. The problem of preserving the historical memory of the nation and national dignity, the conflict of the people and the state, the indigenous people's morality and the new social concepts are highlighted. The role of songs, historical names (Klimovskii, Mazeppa, Kochubei), of geographic names in the creation of subtext of the drama is highlighted. en
