dc.description.abstract The concept of competence is widely used and is connected with multicultural compatibility, and the competitive approach in contemporary education is understood as a complex assimilation of knowledge and practical ways of its application. The philological competence is a key one, as philology is „universal knowledge that issues from texts’, „the service of intercultural intercourse” (M.L. Gasparov) that possesses „a particular spiritual measurement” {S. Averintsev). The philological competence is a polyfunctional concept. It can be viewed as the goal of education and as a means of gaining knowledge in other fields and as a way of spiritual development. Comparative-typological study of Russian literature is a component that contributes to the formation of philological competence while finding similarities and differences in the poetry of M. Iu. Lermontov and M. Eminescu, while studying the influence of the poetry of J. Byron on the development of Russian literature, while comparing Russian literary translations with the originals. Comparative analyses is becoming one of the ways of the formation of the philological competence of philology students. en
