dc.description.abstract The most valuable acquisition of an institution of higher education is its teaching staff. What are the requirements to the quality of the teaching act and how should the message of the modern university professor be so that the student could receive it? This article supports the idea of maintaining the classic requirements concerning the teacher’s message, as for example the following: 1. exact and detailed knowledge of the subject he/she teaches; 2. good knowledge of the mother tongue and the ability of an adequate usage of the language by the speaker; 3. a fair message that would exclude any lies (the ethical dimension of the speaker’s message). This article makes reference to the famous Russian orator and jurist Anatoly Cony’s advice, offered to lecturers. The lesson is a direct and progressive process of acquiring knowledge, of scientific mentality configuration; it is a creative process, as the spoken word has more viability and power than the written one. The lecturer’s message should conform to the following conditions: 1. it should capture the listener’s interest and 2. it should maintain his/her interest and attention to the end of the speech. The university lecturer will promote and value in his message the live word, the art of rhetoric, the power of the mind, the moral simplicity and integrity, the love and dedication to the student, the guidance of the student towards education, the harmony between form (the word) and content (the thought). en
