Phraseological units represent archaic vestiges that conserve old „culture layers”, „forgotten” as time passed, due to the prodigious semantic mobility of the lexical units that make them up. The linguists’ duty is „to dig up” these meanings, highlighting the richness and depth of the Romanian language. The present article investigates archaic meanings that express the notion of „road”, preserved in the structure of phraseological units. Words that refer to this notion belong to a lexico-semantic field with specific features, since the used terms bring exhaustive information concerning the society that „practises a certain system of roads”, as well as concerning the society anchorage in history and developing relations with other communities.
