The paper proposes an explicit variant of the competence concept based on the semantic analysis of the English terms “competence” and “competency”. Two aspects of the competence are defined: the static aspect, used mostly in the working environment, and the dynamic aspect, often used in the education milieu. We propose to use two distinct names for those two aspects: competence as character and competence as result (“competence” and “competency”)
