Abstract: Every literary work is special and unique in its own way, but it seems axiomatic that elements of intertextuality would be found there, such as: themes, expressions, plot patterns common to other works. This is a proof of the fact that many authors were inspired by some of their predecessors and interacted with their works in a subtle way. Still, having similar traits of the expression manner or treating the same themes of human existence, nature, love etc., does not reveal a lack of originality. It just emphasizes the diversity of literary influences. In this article we aim to ascertain the above ideas on the example of the fables of the French author Jean de La Fontaine, highlighting some of the signs of the evolution of intellectual approaches to some subject matters through intertextuality.
