Abstract

Im Kommunikationsprozess drücken die Menschen ihre gegenseitigen Ansichten aus, wobei nicht nur der Informationsaustausch, sondern auch die respektvolle oder freundliche Haltung gegenüber dem Gesprächspartner im Vordergrund steht. Hierbei handelt es sich um das Konzept der „Höflichkeit“, welches ein inhärentes Attribut der alltäglichen Kommunikation ist. Der Beitrag stellt die wichtigsten sprachwissenschaftlichen Theorien zur Höflichkeit vor und zeigt ihre Verflechtung mit Nachbardisziplinen auf. Die Höflichkeit, als Element der täglichen Kommunikation, sorgt für einen stabilen und konfliktfreien Durchführung, da sie einen Regulator des menschlichen Verhaltens darstellt. Über die Höflichkeit denkt man im Alltag normalerweise nicht nach, das Phänomen wird uns erst dann bewusst, wenn wir Verstöße dagegen empfinden, so wie ein Dank, der ausbleibt, eine Anrede, die wir als unangemessen empfinden, ein Gruß, der kaum erwidert wird. Die Höflichkeit im Alltag zu definieren, fällt daher schwer und erfolgt zumeist durch Ersatztermini wie Disziplin, Respekt, Lebensart, guter Ton. In the process of communication, people express their opinions to each other, focusing not only on the exchange of information, but also on a respectful or friendly attitude towards the interlocutor. This is the concept of “politeness”, which is an inherent attribute of everyday communication. This article presents the most important linguistic theories of politeness and shows how they intertwine with related subjects. Politeness, as an element of everyday communication, ensures a stable and conflict-free process because it is a regulator of human behaviour. We do not normally think of politeness in everyday life, rather, we become aware of this phenomenon only when we experience its violations: a “thank you” that is not heard, a greeting that is barely responded to, a form of address that we perceive as inappropriate. Defining politeness in everyday life is, therefore, difficult and is usually done using alternative terms such as behaviour, respect, decency, good manners.
