In the present sequence (as part of a larger study involving texts from various genres of world literature), a literary motif prevalent among writers of the last two centuries is discussed. It examines some fiction and critical texts to find didactic language suitable for semiotic or hermeneutic interpretations in school or college studies of literature. By examining and proposing a nuanced understanding of the window's place as a boundary between inside and outside, me and others, subjective and objective, the study analyzes a variety of fiction and critical texts.en
