Abstract: The environmental policies applied at the European and national level represent the strategies adopted to reverse the process of environmental deterioration. The result of the application of environmental policies up to the present moment consisted, mainly, in the decrease of the level of pollution, but not in the prevention and reversal of the process. The development of socio-economic systems, which led to the growth of European economies, was accompanied by the constant degradation of environmental factors that have negative effects on people's health.
