Abstract: This article analyzes the most important advantages of private property from a philosophical point of view and its influences on the upward economic development of society. The author uses the examination of the philosophical legacy of Aristotle, St. Thomas Aquinas, Jh. Stuart Mill, I. Fichte, G. Hegel, J.-J. Rousseau, Fr. Hayek who defended private property and demonstrated its importance to society. A whole series of advantages of private property are analyzed, such as: it ensures full autonomy to the economic units, it constitutes the foundation of the individual freedom and of the economic democracy; generates real competition between economic agents; stimulates free initiative in the establishment and development of enterprises; ensures a high interest and a superior motivation for work, etc. At the same time, the issues related to private property are addressed in the conditions of the transition from the totalitarian society to the market economy and the rule of law characteristic for the Republic of Moldova.
