Abstract: The article presents the anthropometric principle in designating and knowing the reality. Two perspectives of the metaphorical transfer based on the anthropometric principle are proposed: from the human to the extrahuman field and vice versa. It is illustrated with elements of (folk) metrology where somatisms with proper meaning function as units of measurement (foot, palm, toe etc.); the metaphorical meanings from dictionaries are presented and the existence of an anthropometric somatic symbolism in phraseological contexts is demonstrated.
