Abstract: Considering the context in which we live today, we realize that nowadays the practice of a foreign language is very important both in school and outside the school context. The learning of a foreign language and, consequently, the formation of communicative skills, involve firstly the development of essential attitudes: curiosity, attention, motivation, self-confidence in using a foreign language. Motivation is an important element in any activity, regardless of who performs it. Motivation plays a key role in all types of learning styles, both in school framework and outside it, being an indispensable factor in learning a foreign language. In this article we propose to determine the importance and the role of emotional and motivational factors in learning French and communicative skills formation. Another aim is to prove that motivation and learners’ attitudes, both complex and dynamic phenomena, really represent essential concepts in the field of modern language teaching, because of their remarkable role in learning foreign languages. We are also focusing on the learning space that facilitates teacher and pupil's interaction during French lesson, such as the activities and teaching materials used in the classroom, emphasizing the importance of integrating the emotional dimension and learners’ motivation in the study of French as a foreign language.
