Abstract: The carnivalesque occupies an important place in Mikhail Bakhtin's dialogic theory. In the totalitarian system, the carnivalesque has, ultimately, a subversive character. The familiar language of all European peoples, especially the insulting and sardonic one, abounds also nowadays in carnivalesque traces, as well as the insulting and mocking gesticulation is full carnivalesque symbolism. A novel that is remarkable through an original approach from the carnivalesque perspective of peasant life problems, is “Povestea cu cocoşul roşu” (“The Red Rooster Story”) by Vasile Vasilache.
