| Abstract: | The Balti long-term field experiments were used to assess the potential of soil microbial biomass (SMB) as a tool for measuring the impact of arable management practices on soil quality. Compared with the soil organic matter parameter, SMB has greater discriminative power, sensitively reflecting the negative effects of black fallow as well as the advantages of ecological crop rotations over conventional systems. |
