dc.description.abstractThe Soviet sport was a power in world sport, resulting from its representatives, who were from various Union republics, memorable performances hard to forget. Considered the “Golden legacy" of the Soviet period both because of developed infrastructure and training methodology, the sport has generated one of the fundamental myths of "unity" of the Soviet people. However, beyond this “instrumentalist” side of the Soviet sport, its development during the Soviet era was marked by numerous contradictions and ambiguities, inherent probably in the context of the totalitarian regime. The article approaches the issue of sport and politics in two dimensions: the first is related to the general trends in the Soviet Union and the second to the particular case of the Moldovan SSRen
